secure files?

hi there
does anyone know if there is a way to password protect a single folder? and also does the 'file vault' feature slow down things and awful lot?

IMHO FileVault sucks. You can create a .dmg file/folder/archive which is encrypted and password protected. Just go to the Disk Utility and create a new image and select the encryption method(s).
