I know this can apply to any of the Mac computer forums, but I noticed something very interesting! Take a look at these two links:

U.S. Store:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore

Japan Store:
http://store.apple.com/0120-APPLE-1/WebObjects/japanstore/

Now I know the reason behind this. Basically, Japan starts their new school year right around this time in early April. The U.S. starts between August and September, depending on where in the U.S. you look at.

Now the thing I don't understand... how does this tie in with the Mac monthly updates? We all probably know in the U.S., Apple tends to sell out the last remaining models ready for an update with the free iPod to boost sales for students. What about Japan? The entire world saw updates for the line of computers (excluding iMacs for now), so how does this affect those who live in Japan?

I know it's an interesting question, but anyone who is currently living in Japan, please let me and everyone know how it works out.

Nonetheless, quite an interesting find!

I noticed this on Austraila...I think too. Some other country in English language.....At least I think I did.

Huh? Are you saying that students in the US will be buying older, end of the line systems as part of their student deal? As a sure way for Apple to clear out it's inventory of old stock?

Man, That sucks...

What you mean by how this affects Japan? We already have the new models that were recently released. Students who are buying a New Mac, will be getting the latest and greatest models. I guess you'll need a student ID to take part in the promotion and it only applies to student purchases made prior to 2008, May 13th.

The fact that most macs are about $100 - $200 more in Japan due to the exchange rate sort of invalidates this deal for those of us used to paying USA prices.
