I followed this guide. I'm using 10.5.2. with a 360 + macbook. The 360 is connected via ethernet.

This is the guide. The problem is highlighted in bold.

-------------------
-First off, get all the hardware setup. This is probably the easiest part. Take the cable that comes with your Xbox (or any network cable that fits) and connect it to the back of your Xbox and your Mac. Turn on the Mac and the Xbox (not necessarily simultaneously; probably turn on your Mac first). When your Xbox is on, head to the Xbox dashboard.

-On your Mac, head over to the System Preferences and click on “Network.” From the “Show” menu, select “Built-in Ethernet” and set “Configure IPv4? to “Off.” Now head back to System Preferences (click “Show All”) and then go to “Sharing.” Click on the “Internet” button and check the box next to “Built-in Ethernet.” Make sure “Share your connection from: Airport” is selected as well.

-Open Terminal (if you can’t find it, just type “Terminal” in Spotlight) and type in the following exactly: ifconfig en0. Hit enter, and it should return something like inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255. If the first IP is something other than 192.168.2.1 make note of it, and don’t close Terminal.

-Now, turn around and grab your Xbox controller. Go to the Network settings, and set the IP Configuration to Manual, the IP to 192.168.2.2, the Mask to 255.255.255.0, and the router/gateway to 192.168.2.1 (the IP that I told you to make note of earlier — if yours is different, input that IP instead).

-Get back on your Mac, go to Terminal, and type in dig and hit enter. There will be a lot of data, but you need to pay attention to only one line. Near the end of the output, a line will begin with SERVER. That’s the line you need to look at. Find the IP address in that line, and highlight it.

-Go to the Xbox and go to DNS Configuration. Set it to Manual, and input the IP that you just found in Terminal as the primary DNS server. Set your PPPoE settings to Off and your Advanced to Automatic.

-Test your Xbox Live connection. Provided you followed all the steps properly, you should have a connection.

The IP address I get from the server is the same as what I get when I type ifconfig en0.

Thus I always get a DNS error. Can someone help me?

Thanks.

What you need to do is find the DNS servers and set them manually.
cat /etc/resolv.conf | grep nameserver
try that in terminal, should work for you

Thanks, but I got 192.168.2.1 as well.

Still claims DNS error.

Try these instruction. This is how I connect to Xbox live.

Connect xbox live from macbook

Mac OS X
1) System Preferences-->Network-->Built-in Ethernet-->TCP/IP
2) Set Configure IPv4: to Manually
- Set IP Address: to 10.0.0.1
- Set Subnet Mask: to 255.255.255.0
3) System Preferences-->Sharing-->Internet
4) Set Share your connection from: to Airport
- Set To computers using: to Built-in Ethernet
- Click Start and than Start

XBOX 360
1) While in the Dashboard, navigate to the System blade
2) Network Settings-->Edit Settings-->IP Settings-->Manual
3) Set IP Address to 10.0.0.2 ( The first three segments i.e. 10.0.0 will need to match what you set in step #2 of the Mac OS X section )
- Set Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
- Set Gateway to 10.0.0.1 ( What you set in step #2 under the Mac OS X section )
- Click Done
4) Go to DNS Settings
*** NOTE: I set the primary to my router and the secondary to my ISP's primary. You can find your router's IP by going to your MacBook and to System Preferences-->Network-->Airport-->TCP/IP
*** NOTE: You can usually find your ISP's DNS servers in your routers status page, see the manual that came with your router for more information

I Followed these steps i found in the comments of another forum and it worked perfectly and it worked perfectly

"After some pain in @$$ I finally got it to work. Wasn’t trying to hook into XBOX, but a Directv HD Receiver. Using OS X 10.5.8 on macbook pro
What I did–

1. Start with the previous posts of sharing your internet connection.

1.1. type “ifconfig en0″ in the terminal and view your inet address–mine was 192.168.2.1
2. Go into System Prefs / Network

2.1. click on AirPort, then advanced — make note of your router address–mine was 192.168.2.1–because this poses as a conflict with the inet address i logged into my router and changed it’s address to be 192.168.0.1
3. Select Ethernet

3.1. In the configure drop-down box, select “Using DHCP with manual address”

3.2. Click on the IP address and use inet address (192.168.2.1)+1 –should be 192.168.2.2

3.3. Type your router address in the DNS server block (see item 2.1)

3.4. click apply — you are done with configuring the computer
4. XBOX setup (For my example I am using Directv HD DVR, but items should be the same)

4.1. IP address should be a non-conflicting IP address. If you used 192.168.2.2 in step 3.2, then add 1 more (192.168.2.3)

4.2. Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0

4.3. Default gateway = the number from item 3.2

4.4. DNS server will be your router IP address from item 2.1
