Buster Martin's claim to be the oldest London Marathon runner, at 101, has not been approved by the Guinness Book of Records. So how does it verify age-related records?

Running 26 miles aged 94 is an extraordinary feat. But for Buster Martin, who says he is 101, the accolades have been clouded by questions about how old he really is.

The Guinness Book of Records has not received the required proof, it says, and an NHS record says he is in fact 94.

Ah well, still a good age to be running… :D

It also says he gave 2 different NHS dates one saying he's 101 and the other saying he's 94.

In Mr Martin's case, Guinness says he gave the NHS two dates of birth, one which made him 94 and the other 101.

I guess his memory's not what it used to be. :D

He was brilliant on the radio before the Marathon. Said something like:

"I've lived well, drunk well and smoked well"

EDIT: he was in the present tense though.
"I live well, drink well and smoke well"

Whatever, I'm a third his age and cannot fathom a 26 mile race.

I wish more 'old people' were half a percent as fit as he is. It's these decrepit old gummers hobbling around making a nuisance of themselves everywhere they go that drive me nuts. (FFS, if your brain and legs work at a snail's pace then can you not go grocery shopping during the day instead of the evening and weekends when people who work are forced to go? I mean really, it benefits us all that way.)
I'll stop there though, lest I go into one about it. :p

Hi IBlue,

Wait until we're his age b/c there are so many unfit ppl these days, that the number of unfit folks when we're old is going to be astounding.

check that...alot of them will be dead long before that.
