From Engadget:

My 13 year old managed to break the vacuum....thinking it would release him from that duty. He also has a list of other chores that were TYPED up for him to do Friday afternoon....one thing on the list was done...mind you these are simple things...empty the trash, clean your room, etc. Then I go thru the cookies on his computer and find out he has been checking out porn sites. Now there is a password so he can't even get on and his my-space page has a picture of snoopy on it now. Apparently I'm the meanest mom in the world, were his words.

I'm a single mom. I can't let them walk over me or I might never get up.

Got a kick out of this one! There is Craigslist link where you can buy the Xbox 360.

First of all, we're guessing she bought you that Xbox, unless you're the most enterprising 13-year-old ever, so you can deal with keeping your room tidy.

He might have bought it himself. I'm 16 and I've bought a GBA when I was 10(?), DS when I was almost 13, half a GCN when I was 11, and a Wii back in 2006 when I was 15.

You don't have to be that enterprising to buy a game console. But he should learn how to do his chores and use the Private Browsing option.

clean cookies? oh oh.. i'm toast ;)

As for the Mom...good for her. kids these days get away with way too much.

good job Mom!

hell, i would have taken the computer away. canceled his myspace account, and GIVEN his 360 away. just to put the kid in his place. looks like that kids gonna be trouble, with the worst to come...

Myspace is really weird. I hate it. No 13 year old should have a Myspace.

Also, the kid should know how to clear his cookies  and i'm surprised his Mom knows how to check cookies.

Good for her.

More parents need to be like this woman.

BTW, it breaks the MySpace TOS agreement to be under the age of 14 with an account.

So chances are, when they get word, they'll shut it.

Thats ridiculous, I mean I know breaking the vacuum cleaner was stupid but no no need to sell his XBox!

About the porn, I hope this teaches all teenagers a lesson: password protect your computer with a 50 digit password with 5 different encryption techniques on all your data! Seriously, though, most teenagers are gonna watch porn, its all to do with hormones etc.

Ha! Similer thing here, my Mum knows what cookies are 'coz she clears them sometimes to stop the internet browser slowing down (not so much of a problem since we got the new iMac, TBH) but she probably has no idea how to check them.

My Dad literally cant turn our iMac on because the power button is on the back.

Also, I use Firefox Portable, which runs entirely off a USB key to thats also where it stores all cookies, history, bookmarks etc. ;)

I think breaking the vacuum was done on purpose, and the money she raises will get a new vacuum cleaner (maybe a Dyson if the bids get high enough ;) ). So I think the punishment fits the crime. Hopefully he'll learn.
