My friend has just bought himself a MacBook Pro, with it came an install disk with Leopard on it. I have the original Core Duo MacBook, does anyone know for sure that I can use his disk safely on my computer?

Thanks

No, for two reasons.

1) Using an install disc on a Mac other than the one it was sold with is a violation of Apple's EULA.

2) Apple ties the install discs to only work with the same type of computer the disc was sold with. For example, an iMac disc will not install on a MacBook.

There is a line in a javascript file on the disk that tells the computer:

"If the users starts up the OSX installer, check to see if the computer is the right model. If it's the right model, the user may proceed with the installation process. If this disk does not match the computer model, tell the user he cannot use the disk to install OSX on this computer."

In short: it won't work.

Duff-Man says....this question must get asked at least 2 or 3 times every week - please have a look at a few of the countless other threads that already exist.....oh yeah!
