I posted here a couple days ago about getting my MBP etched and how it wont void my warranty.

Well i searched online for a few places and i found 2-3 pretty good places but high prices for laser etching and it involved me sending my MBP away from a week or two. So i decided to see if anywhere around me would do it, considering i live in a town of 37,000 people it isnt the biggest but not the smallest city. But i found one place that does plaques and trophy etching, so i gave them a call and they said we have a laser etching machine.

So i went there and showed them what i wanted etched on my MBP and he said ive never done it before on a laptop but ill try to etch your name on the bottom where it has the etching from apple already and ill let you know. So i asked how much, thinking it would be the price ive seen from the 2-3 places, he surprised me by saying $15 . So i went through with it and one day later.

Sorry for the not so great pictures, i just took a few shots with my iphone.

I'm currently drawing up something else for the other 3/4th of blank space.
I'll post another thread when its done and etched!

excellent so now in a few years when you want to sell it and get a new one no one is going to give you a penny for it, nice going

looks kinda cool though, my buddy is thinking about having his HP engraved like that, HPs dont hold their value like macs do though

that's really cool... but i assume if you ever tried to sell it, it might be more difficult. unless you found someone with same name as you. :)

Haha, i dont plan on selling my MBP until it dies. Which hopefully it wont be soon (Knocks on wood).

That's Awesome!

When i get my MBP i REALLY want to do something like that.

Keep us updated on the other etchings!!

I like the idea of it, I would have opted for somethign more artistic but to each theyr own congratz man enjoy it...

I think it looks pretty cool. Nice job, man.

(Just had to inject a little antidote to all of the cranks who can't seem to even glimpse the positive side to things.)

I'm drawing this up but im not done yet, there will be more "blocks" to it when i get done.

It will start on the bottom left side and go up to the top right side.

To the people who dont like it, yeah i get what your saying but i know engraving their mbp isn't for everyone.

EDIT: The picture is backwards, i took it with photobooth, Im too lazy to get the nikon.

ok now that would look cool

Im 90% done with the design i posted above. I am probably going to take it in tomorrow to get it etched. So i will post when it gets done.

i kinda want to do the same thing....

what kind of places would do it? are trophy places the only place?

The blocks thing looks pretty cool. I'd love to get one done with waves like in that famous japanese painting.

On the contrary, it’ll make it easier to find/spot.

Yes, people LOOK for laptops with names prominently engraved on them. Given a choice of a 3 laptops they would obviously take the one that has been personalized. Because it's so easy to resell them...to people with that name. And it's not like it would be easy to identify at a pawnshop/police station.

Jesus..

This is a really cool idea - I just haven't done it because I find myself thinking about it like I think about a tattoo - once it's there, it's there. I just can't decide what I'd want on there forever.

If I could get it done, I'd probably have old school mario put on there with some blocks and pipes or something. Kinda like the ones on Katie's tattoo she just got. That would be sweet!

And for the people talking about resale - the guy obviously doesn't care - he said he's keeping it until it dies, which is exactly what I'm planning to do with mine.
