Tattoos made burglar a marked man

A burglar has been jailed for two years after tattoos showing his birthday and hometown helped police to identify him and track him down.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how Richard Thompson, of Barry, Vale of Glamorgan was arrested after a witness spotted the distinct markings on his body.

The 35-year-old had "Made in Barry" on his chest and his birthday tattooed around his belly button.

He stole keys from a pub table before using them to break into nearby house.

A topless Thompson took the keys while the victim went to toilet in the bar and was later identified by a witness who told police about his distinctive body art.

Prosecutor Nuhu Gobir told the court: "He was bare-chested when he sat down by the victim in the pub so the tattoos were clearly visible.

"He had 'Made in Barry' as a tattoo and numbers around his navel. It was his date of birth."

Thompson, who had 148 previous offences, admitted burglary and was jailed for two years on Wednesday.

I suppose there are no three strikes and your out laws there. Maybe 150 will be the magic number for life.
