trouble getting started with Corel PainterX

I recently bought Corel Painter X, hoping to use it for graphic projects, and am hugely frustrated, can't manage to get started, every time I look for information on line, Corel company is trying to sell me a class or a video. Has anyone had good experience with Corel? Do you know of a DVD that goes through the basics (I got the user's manual with the software, but find there are big gaps...)
