Frozen Phone

My iphone is frozen on the startup screen with the apple logo and the spinning circle (not spinning anymore). Any way to shut this off without connecting to itunes. I'm at work and can't connect - it's starting to get pretty hot too.

im guessing it doesnt respond to holding the power button down?

That's a negative. I guess I'm just waiting for the battery to die now.

try a hard reset. (power button and home button)
you will still keep your files and stuff.

I did try that a few times to no avail. It finally worked after about an hour or so. I ended up having to restore my phone - wouldn't start back up.
