I've used my MBP on AC power virtually it's entire life. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I've been using it outside on the quads every now and then. The problem is, it consistently shuts down without warning at 51% battery life. I'm typing along, when all of a sudden BAM it's turned off. Not even like asleep or going through the normal shutdown process, but like what happens if you pull the plug on a desktop. As I understand it, Li-Ion batteries don't have memory issues...so what's the deal?

Open System Profiler and look in the Power section. If you battery shows a low percentage of available health then it's probably failing and needs to be replaced.

I do have an A1175, but my SN ends in YF3A.

The problem with the calibration article is that it doesn't actually go to sleep. It just shuts off.

I'll try the battery logger.

iStat reports my health at 72%. Here's my System Profiler report. I'll point out that a cycle count of 80 sounds pretty low for a laptop that I've had for almost a year...
