Metropolis Mag, a popular english magazine claims that they may have solved the Japanese iPhone mystery. Story and image below.

If there was ever any doubt that apple will be bringing its poster-child phone to Japan, let that be swept aside by the news that a Nagoya company has been in secret talks with the US giant about that very possibility.
More specifically, Aiphone has agreed to let Apple use the katakana version of the name Aiphone/iPhone in Japan. it long held the right to do so it its home territory, but the fact the phonetic Japanese alphabet cant' account for spelling differences in english led to apple getting in touch. Our money's on a late summer iPhone debut on softbank. www.aiphone.com

COOL! can't wait.

this is a very good news... this could potentially mean that I could type in Japanese on my US iPhone by loading JP OS.

Very nice..

What would the iphone offer that the japanese would want? They already have phones with more features, higher res screens and are used to keypad typing.

^^ hopefully the iphone will ship with better camera and higher rez screen. THough it will nvr do mobile TV or felica it still is real cool.

Arent we all really used to keyboard typing?
