I am sorry to bug you all with what I know is a very common question. But I have been reading both professional and consumer reviews and often they are so contradictory that I don't know what to believe. I am going to use this monitor for pretty much the full range of uses: a screen for an xbox 360/PS3, a extended monitor for my MBP for essays, graphics, etc., and as a TV.
I am also very interested in a monitor that doesn't have a static stand (i.e. swivel, tilt, raise/lower, and portrait mode if possible)
I am looking at something between 22-24 (if anyone has advice on this too, I'll take it) Right now I am leaning towards these three 24'' monitors.

HP w2408/2408h (the h just means it has an HDMI instead of a DVI AFAIK)

Dell Ultrasharp

Gateway

I like the design of the HP the most and the Dell the least. AFAIK all of them support portrait, and the HP and the Gateway are glossy. I kinda think the dell looks like ass, but maybe thats just me being anti-dell.

Of course I have considered (well, still kinda am) the Apple Cinema Display for its design, ease of use (no calibration), and higher quality panel. I don't know how well it is suited for gaming due to its response rates and the limited base (no height adjust and no portrait and input options is kind of a downer. That and they are due for a refresh (although I can wait until september to buy technically) Oh and its really expensive. I would only be able to get the 20'' refurb.

Thanks for all of the help

I'm in the same situation here, but I'm looking for a 20". Everyone has a different opinion, i wish i could just see the damn things myself.

yah that 20'' refurb apple is kinda tempting to me too, even though when I saw my friend's it looked kinda small

also I have heard some panels have different attributes.

I think I have heard that the cheaper TN panels can be worse for color better better for response times.

Is the 16m/s response time of the IPS panel in the Apple Cinema good enough for games.

Also I have heard many arguments the certain dell displays use the exact same panels as the apple's, if so which models are these, or is it a crapshoot?
