One good thing (semi-facetious) about the iPhone's lack of any kind of spam / junk mail filter (which, honestly, my BB also did not have, although if I were patient, I could set BB-specific server-side filters), as well as the lack of a mark-all-as-read option (FFS)...
I'm finally taking the time to actively try to reduce the amount of junk e-mail I receive on my GMail and Yahoo accounts... going through and deleting old accounts and subscriptions I never use anymore, like Friendster and Xanga, and ads that I have no interest in (I want Bluefly, Yoox, Guess, and a few others, but some of them are just a waste of time).
It's interesting that, contrary to the general idea that free e-mail accounts are spam havens, my AOL account, which I've had for a couple years but basically never use, receives no spam (because I don't give the address out much). My Yahoo has actually improved rather a lot since I migrated to GMail as my primary, also....
But sigh. The final 2.0, a way to unlock and jailbreak it, and a mark-all-as-read feature are sorely wanted....
