I'm looking to get a hard drive for a windows partition (currently having a hellacious time with a leopard + windows hard drive) and would like some suggestions. Thanks.

Seagate disks are to be avoided in Mac Pro, since they vibrate a lot. They are silent, but they vibrate!

I've found that the Wester Digital Green Power 2 disks are the best. They are silent, doesn't vibrate, and... They're silent! :)

I have Windows on a 500 GB WD Caviar SE16 SATA-II 7200 RPM drive, and I've been very happy with it. It is quiet and fast.

I would stay away from Seagate unless you can confirm that they no longer have the performance issues that were a problem with some 7200.10s. Maybe the 7200.11s are better, I don't know.

Western Digital Caviar 640 GB

I'd get the Caviar 640 GB. I tried the following drives, the scores are from xbench. The prices are a month or so old.

Original 500GB drive that came with the MacPro - 57.5 (Came with the mac pro)
Western Digital Raptor 150GB - 83.5 (Price $160) This is the 10,000 RPM drive
Hitachi's 1TB - 70.3 (Price $200)
WD Caviar 640 GB - 102.3 (Price $100)

The WD Caviar is also very quite.

Yeah, I have 4x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1s in my MP and zero vibration and zero noise.

Especially when they're upside down.

Go with the Samsungs; they're a great deal.

I beg to differ on the vibrating Seagate disinformation, as I have 3 - 1tb Barracuda's in my macpro. No vibration at all!
Also quiet as hell.
