What would be the fastest HD I could get without looking into the raptor? Looking in the 500gb range..
The new Western Digital 640 GB drive is the fastest 7200 RPM SATA under 1 TB in size.
Or the Samsung F1 1 TB drive
see http://www.barefeats.com/harper14.html
I have 2 of the 640gb WDs in Raid 0 and all I can say is smoking fast.
Can you run raid 0+1 at the same time? I ask because losing all my stuff due to the failure of one drive frightens me.
We will have stock on the WD 640GB model come Friday - which is when we'll list them too. The Samsung 750GB is a better per GB value though, even though is a little more than the WD 640.
I still don't see this on the website?
If you are looking for the WD's I see them on there.
You can -- it takes 4 drives however, which means going to an external enclosure.
I recommend not using RAID 0 at all. With the exception of specific applications such as capturing HD video, the real world speed gains (if any) are not worth the risk IMO.
I have 5 internal drives in my MP and I boot from raid10...You can -- it takes 4 drives however, which means going to an external enclosure.
I have a 3 drive Raptor Raid0 that is backed up on a 4th drive using SuperDuper and TM.
A very robust setup that has been in constant operation since Oct 06.
This Raid0 scare mongering really should stop.
