summer jobs for a 14 year old? (will be 15 soon)

any ideas?

to young for anything at the mall..

small town, and i have no previous job experience.

what should i put on the previous experience section on my applications? my older sister says employers like when it is you first job, but i have a hard time believing her..
 
She is right, be honest with them and tell them it's your first job. At the same time look excited and enthusiastic about the new venture.
 
i despise the food industry, and would love to work in retail. we have a downtown victorian section part of town.. i should take a walk and ask around.

being a vegetarian, i would (and have) throw up when touching meat..
ehh
 
hmm, we dont have a ride mower, or a truck, but maybe i could.

my parents are really pushing this on me.. i guess if you look at my electronics in my sig, they have a point.. ;)

earlier today i picked up an application at Bellacinos (mancinos type place) and tomorrow or friday i am going to get one at Ace hardware, and try to go to the mall in person.
 
My first job (when i was 14) was at a golf course. I still work at a golf course and I am now 21. I enjoy working outside and the manual labor does not bother me.

If you can get hired on as cart boy you might be able to even make tips. The course I worked at when i was 14 hired me at minimum wage AND i made tips. given the tips were usually not as good as in the bar but still on a good day i could go home with 40ish in tips.
 
My first job was running audio equipment for a two week conference during the summer... I can say those two weeks were a great deal of fun *turns the pitch squeaky on the mixer*

Some other good suggestions:
-Lifeguard (you get to meet a lot of people)
- Advertiser (pass out papers to people's doors?)
- Computer repair? (fix broken stuff...sometimes people give you their old stuff too)
 
Not going to be much available for a 14 year old. Most places don't even consider until 16.
 
You could consider doing a little business of your own, if you're particularly talented at something like HTML, web design, etc. I have a friend who started his own web design company when he was 13. He just resold hosting services that he bought. (It was pretty impressive at the time, though these companies are a dime a dozen now) His clients were mostly places like churches, community centers, small businesses run from people's homes, etc, so content was fairly simple and easy to maintain. In a small town, this might just work out well (unless everyone's already got websites!)

Other ideas: collect photos (scanned, or digital), make slideshows using iPhoto, burn to DVDs using iDVD. Offer this as a service. If you have a miniDV camcorder and a VCR, you could expand this into a "your home videos and VHS tapes converted to DVD!" service.

There's a certain "aww, cute!" element to someone so young running a business, and it might help win you some sales on that basis alone, especially with older folk ;)
 
I don't know if you can do this at 15, but survey calling places? I know a lot of people (i mean like, over 10-15 people) who either have or are working at phone surveying places. hey get paid like, $9.00 CDN an hour. Most of my friends are 16/17, but some had the job like, a year ago, so I'm not sure if they hire at 15 or not.

Also, it might be a little hard finding a place like this in a small town.

It's tough for 14-year-olds to find traditional summer jobs because of legal working age issues, but you should check out the site myfirstpaycheck.com. Also some of the lawn cutting services may also need help, or some of the older teens with a truck and a route may need help.

Pools are also another one, along with window cleaning, garage cleaning, etc.
 
I don't know if your a girl or not, but if you are, its usually easier to get a babysitting job.

Other then that, at your local ACE store, even in your local newspaper, advertise that your 14/15 looking for odd jobs and list some good qualities about yourself. You might get calls from elderly people who need help around the yard.

If you have a choice, pick the job which allows you to best demonstrate that you are both reliable and responsible. Tell your prospective employer that you plan on using him or her as a reference in the future. Then, be responsible and reliable, and you will go far. While mowing lawns on your own might earn a little more, working for someone who is your "boss" will get you a better reference.
 
I just got back from my first day at Bellacinos..

I hated it! it was the worst four hours of my life.

i had to clean these 50 lb metal buckets full of brown meat stuff and the guy kept saying i wasnt going fast enough...

and that is just the start..

what should i do????
 
Talk to your parents, and ask for their advise. They know you, and of your aversion to meat.

I agree with the outdoor jobs. They still add to your resume, but without some of the restrictions of working inside.
 
im supposed to call back for my schedule at 9..

ugh every time someone dropped something i had to pick it up
 
ya, you don't always like your job you know...

anyway, you might be able to get a job at a golf course, that's what a lot of kids do here.

i want a job to start raising money for college.. ive baby sat andtried the mowing lawns stuff but thats not stable enough i want to get a good paying job but the only places around here hire 16 years olds at the minimum.... i havee nooo idea how to do web page stuff and dont really haveany amazing tallents that i kno of yet whatt should i do?????
 
i suggest robbing a bank :p lol, no don't do that unless u plan on getting away. try to geta job at mcdonalds or something
or try something like selling something that u can make or u can quickly learn html and stuff by borrowing books from ur local library.
 
all rightttt another thing is that i would loveeeeeee to be a modle or like be in a musicalor moviee thats like my dream but once again noo moneyyy how do i get money to like find a place where ican get money modleing and NOT for like porn or anything like that i mean like clothing
