I've never had a tux before, or any need for one. I maybe rented 2 in my life (ancient history now). Anyway, I need to get one for an upcoming trip (and hopefully it will see more use in the future), and looking at the available styles it seems to me like the peak lapel is the most "classic" look, but the notch lapel is certainly easier to find. For those who know these things I'm going to a 40's style nightclub and I think the peak lapel would look more in place there, but would it be ok for general formal occasions, or is the notch lapel more acceptable today?

Pretty much any time that you're going to be wearing a tux, a peak lapel will not be out of place.
