Well it turns out that it was just a case.

So does this mean that Engadget's source lied saying that it will have an all glossy black back? How legit is that article on the info that they have about the 3G iPhone? Do you guys think that the writer THOUGHT it was glossy black?

I don't know, but I hope we get some OFFICIAL info soon.

this is exactly what I've been saying all along. good find.

Said the same thing all along too.

It's going to bring my respect for Engadget down if what they said doesn't relate to the 3G iPhone.

Very very good find. I didn't think apple would make the next iPhone look like that. I still don't believe it will be "slightly thicker" either!

Alright I have come to a conclusion and I believe that the source Engadget thought was high and reliable is false. Apple wouldn't stray from thinner and aluminum to go with glossy and plastic. CNN and other news sites that are farmiiar with production said the new phone will have 3G, be thinner and have an OLED display. Although the OLED feature is questionable, believe that more than the Engadget article.

I also don't think GPS will definitely be on the next iPhone. But these are
just my opinions, but deep down I think I am right.

Engadget didn't 'lie' - they never said that picture was genuine. It's been floating around for ages - it was there as an illustration.

Why would they put the official looking apple text/engraving like the serial number and such on the back of a case?

So people will buy it and still be able to show off that it's an iPhone and not just a shiny black rectangle that they are holding to their cheek.

I think it's a smart design detail by whichever company designed that case.

My iPhone case has a cutout circle around the Apple logo so that it's visible even with the case on.

Some people want more than that. They want to make sure it says 'iPhone' so there can be no mistake. Plus, with a cutout, it enables dust and stuff to get inside the case and scratch the iPhone up.

Your point is taken, but doesn't counter my original point.

Anyway, this picture has already been proven to be a case and not some magical new iPhone from the future.
