Partitioning Not Working

I am attempting to partioning my hard drive so I can install Ubuntu linux on it as well. I go into Disk Utility, and select my hard drive, and go under the Partition tab. I select two partitions on the drop down menu. I now try to press the partition button on the bottom, only to find that it is greyed out. Any clue what I can do?
