Here's the machine: 700mHz eMac with 1gb of RAM, OEM HD (40gb) and a third-party DVD-RW drive.
Installed my copy of Jaguar on it from CD, no problems. Went to install Tiger on it from my FamPak, big problem. Grey screen with the Apple logo and the "clockwise-counter" resolves to the grey prohibition symbol. End of story.
I have ruled out the drive because I booted a Fedora 8 for PPC DVD-ROM I burned myself from an .ISO. No problems.
I have ruled out the DVD because it worked fine on other Macs in the house in their time (and still does).
What the devil is up with this?
