Hey, i am using mail.app on my gmail account, but sometimes when i am away from home, say in a hotel i cannot send emails. it says that my smtp server is offline but i can receive emails perfectly. can someone please direct me in the right direction to fix this problem. using gmail.com works perfectly, but there is a reason why i use mail.app. thanks in advance!

There are numerous threads on this forum already about SMTP. There are even threads about SMTP and Gmail. For future reference, the Search Forums button above the row of tabs will find them for you. At any rate, an increasing number of ISPs do not permit sending message through a foreign SMTP server on Port 25. This is an antispam measure. However, some ISPs permit the access to foreign SMTP servers on Port 587.
