Problem burning CD in iTunes

Last night I tried to burn a playlist that I created in iTunes, and kept getting an error saying that there was no DVD burning software detected. This is on a 2 month old macbook. 2.2GHZ w/ 4GB of RAM.

It was my wife's for the first month, and I did a complete re-install of OS X after we bought her MBA.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be , and how to fix it without a complete OS re-install?

trying to burn to a blank CD. I also tried multiple blank CDs to make sure it wasn't a problem with the media.
