How do I see other computers on my network!?!?

So i have my penryn notebook, and while i was screen sharing with my friends santa rosa macbook...it showed someone else using there network in his finder. How do i get that on my 'book?

UPDATE
So i got to see it..but how do i connect to my xp laptop now...it keeps saying connection failed.
