Leopard... Should have the latest updates...

About half the icons in my desktop appear to be frozen (including the 'Macintosh HD' icon, a couple of folders, a powerpoint file, and a TeX file). The other half seem to be okay. The ones that are frozen can't be moved or opened. The computer seems to treat them as background with respect to right clicking on them.

I can open them if I go through the finder...

Any thoughts?

Try a restart but at the same time reset the PRAM by holding down Command-Option-P+R after the first chime then release after the second chime, allow the Mac to restart and see how things are. If that fixed it then that means memory got stuck which happens sometimes.

Thank you. I tried restarting it (planning on doing that again and resetting the RAM if that didn't work) and it seems fine now with the restart. Thanks very much. I'm new to the 'you don't have to turn it off, just put it to sleep' way of thinking, and I forget that restarting is a useful trouble shooting thing to do since I'm not turning it off and on anymore.

:)
