So I'm a fairly recent convert to mac, and I have been loving my mac pro so far with one exception, a squeaky fan. After dismantling the front fan module I came the conclusion that It was the bottom front fan producing the squeak.

After searching the net, I wasn't able to find an exact same fan from a mac pro. The G5's fan looks pretty similar, but the only sight I found selling it wanted 60$ for it, and I'm not sure that it would even work. So I decided I would try a generic Pc fan first, since I found one for about 8$.

I figured before trying this though it would be best to ask if any one had any advice about doing so. Not about installation, but if any one knew if a non mac fan would work, would using one potentially lead to overheating etc.
