So I know that there arent really any dangers of jailbreaking an iPod Touch but the iPhone is a bit more risky as you can get bricked (right?)

My question is, if you jailbreak the iPad 3G could it get bricked like a iPhone?

havent heard of anyone have an issue of bricking using the spirit jb. but you will prolly get better reponses using the iphone hacks forum here at mr.

nah don't worry

if anything goes wrong you can just restore to iPad 3.2 OFW

Bricking is a thing of the past. Basically, the only way to really brick an iPhone, (or any other hardware for that matter) is to yank the USB-cable at a certain point in the middle of firmware update. The only ones doing such a foolish thing are probably following ih8sn0w on Twitter =)

To add to the OP's concerns, are there Cydia apps that you can install that ends up being malicious? For example, accessing my wifi network and all of the data transmission? I just jailbroken my iPad recently and is a noob when it comes to this.

Just stick with the apps from the default repositories that come with Cydia, and you'll be fine. In other words, don't manually add any repositories unless you trust it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're fine, because you haven't added any untrusted sources (since you don't know how to), so you'll be downloading only apps from trusted sources.

I am new too, did it, was careful, and watch what apps work and dont work, I dont do free lance experimentation and I stay within the bounds of my limited understanding.

The process is unbelievably simple, the world it opens up is mind blowing, so glad I did it.

You can always go back.

Not had one problem.

Cheers for the responses guys. I think that I'll jailbreak my 32GB 3G with spirit once it gets delivered.

All I really want to do is use backgrounder, scrobbler and maybe a few apps that didnt make it to the appstore like i808.

Care to expand that statement slightly? How can an interrupted ROM flash not be fatal or do you still believe Error 6 is bricking caused by jailbreak?

I dont think he is saying that that is the only way to brick an iPhone, I think he is questioning the bit where you say 'or any other device' meaning there are devices that you can brick by doing what you mentioned.

What method did you use to jailbreak your iphone? I have an iphone 3G. I'm planning to jailbreak it for the backgrounds etc. I am new to all this so a step by step process and pro's and con's would be helpful.

thanks

the two easiest ways that I know of are the spirit jailbreak and also blackra1n. Both are as simple as connect the device and click jailbreak. If you want to unlock to use with a different carrier use blackra1n.

Yeah I'm staying with AT@T. I just want to have more options.

I've had people tell me to NOT jailbreak my phone if I'm staying with AT@T. Would you recommend to jailbreak? I would like different backgrounds on my text and bubbles etc.

Thanks!

if you wanna try all that stuff out do it. If you don't like it then you can always restore your phone back. Not sure what specific apps will do the things you are looking for. Try checking out a forum that is more jailbreak orientated like www.ipodtouchfans.com (they are in the process of changing their name to multi-touch fans because it isn't really that iPod orientated)
