AT&T has sent me a very horrifying message saying that my iPhone 3G that I ordered to be picked up at the store is on backorder and will not be in stock for 5-7 days. :mad: Attached is the email AT&T sent me.

UPDATE: I GOT IT!!! WOO HOO!! I hope you all get yours soon!!!

Meanwhile the Apple stores sit fat and happy with supply. Screw AT&T. I waited in line 4 hours and was number 5 in line only to be told they only got 2 16gb. I left empty handed and pissed and got my 16gb at the Apple store after work that day at 5pm.
 
The way ATT handled the 3G launch has been deplorable. I first noticed a problem after standing in line for 3 hours and people began walking out of the store without a iphone. They didn't make an announcement or try and alert customers that they wouldn't be getting a iphone but would be pre-ordering. When finally pressed to tell us they were out of phones they told us if we pre-ordered we would probably get the iphone on Monday or Tuesday. From everything I have read they are lying.

We really dont know yet. There is another thread that talks about all this but a similar situation took place with the first gen. release but the member ended up receiving the phone on Tuesday after the Friday launch. Lets not knock at&t until we get a sure confirmation.

The OP's email is a system generated email so lets wait and see what happens here.
 
As much as I don't really care for ATT, I do have to say Apple could have provided a bit more inventory to the bigger stores.

That being said, who knows... maybe some ATT exec decided he didn't want to carry too much inventory...

When it comes to this stuff, there's always a bonehead somewhere that used his Harvard MBA to come up with an idea that he is convinced will be looked back upon as genius. Inevitably, just another bonehead decision.
 
most at&t stores got 40 units of stock. so maybe your store got shafted. also blame apple for monopolizing stock.

thats what I heard also but the store I went to, they received total of 80 iPhones. 20 16GB in Black and 60 in 8GB. We were asking why they got so much 8GB when everybody wants the 16GB.

Who knows...
 
This really sucks. I can't believe we all still have to wait. I probably would have been better off driving 30 minutes and waiting in lines for hours at the Apple store than doing this direct fulfillment crap
 
so did you order your phone online??? Or at the Att store? I'm worried we had to order ours through our Corporate account rep and I will be very dissappointed if we don't have them Monday as promised.
 
I was told 7~10 days at the AT&T store this morning.

I'm still ticked off I can't go to the Apple store and order it because of my discount.
 
Corporate accounts and/or if you are a telecom manager or a CRU, and a premier account business, its overnighted when you order it. I ordered mine on Friday evening, and its been shipped already. Should have it Monday. White 16gb.:D
 
Just take your discount off and then re-add it. It couldn't be easier and not worth waiting a week for a phone because of.

Apple may have had conditions in this phones contract that stated they get the bulk of inventory on launch. It is clear that my one local Apple Store had more phones than probably all of the AT&T stores in my area. Apple was flooded with lines ALL day and I still was able to get a 16gb color of my choice at 5pm.

Like I said, I waited in line from 4am till 8am at AT&T only to get shafted. Employees got to the store around 6:30. NOT ONCE did anyone come out and state they only had 2 16GB phones, how many are waiting for that model. Nothing, they just opened the door at 8 am and let you find out for yourself.

They didn't technically have to announce that, but sometimes it's cool to be a decent human being.

Are you sure they ran out? Many stores were unable to complete the activation process, so maybe after three hours they decided to just stop offering the device until the problem was solved.

You my friend just made my weekend!!! We ordered (four of us at work) on Friday morning. I can't wait to hold my white 16gb!!!!!!!

I haven't received anything yet.

I ordered yesterday about 1:30PM and just got my email this morning. I was starting to worry too. The online order status checker still doesn't show anything even though I received my email... so I wouldn't fret too much.

I ordered mine around 12:30PM and still haven't gotten anything even this morning
 
The problem at the AT&T store I went to was that they wouldn't tell us how many phones they started with (even though there were 150 in line by 8am) and when they did run out, they only told the people that were in earshot of the front of the line.
