I have a MacBook Pro, 2 Ghz processor, 120 GB Hitachi 5400 H/D, 2 gb of Corsair ram.
I have had problems when working with graphics but also when opening other programs even if I am not working with graphics, for a couple of months (spinning beachballs on a regular basis) so last weekend I upgraded the memory and H/D as listed above. I still have problems with the spinning beach balls especially in iDVD & iPhoto. Sometimes they last for 30 seconds other times longer and crash the whole system.
I have tried creating a new account but this does not help. Ive opened up the laptop and fans ect are working fine and there is no excessive heat when the beach balls occur. Im thinking about taking out the logic board and replying thermal paste just in case.
On the new H/D I have a clean install of OS X Tiger and have not transferred anything from the old H/D.
Any suggestions/idea's would be most helpful.
