As of 2:15 am cst, all versions of the mba are currently in the refurb store. If you're interested, since they don't last long, act quickly. Good Luck.

Thanks, just bought the 11" 4GB 128 SSD

Macmall was competitive for a new one, but still refurb store was cheaper by a fairly good margin

By the time you pay tax, it's like $50 more to order a new one from macmall.. I bought one refurb - a TiBook, it was such a POS, I'll never buy refurb again. At least with properly used, you get a real break on the price.

From what I hear, buying apple refurbished is just as good if not better than buying new (since it's tested more). Had I not bought my wife a base model 11 inch on craigslist yesterday for 900 off of craigslist, I would have bought refurbished today.

From personal experience, and from many forum members, Apple's refurbs are very good quality. In fact, because of the scrutiny of their inspection, many feel they are superior to new. Also, sometimes it just feels better to order directly from Apple. (I posted before I read the above post)

As for MacMall, I have heard a number of stories of late deliveries, rude salesmen, and charging your credit card multiple times.

If you feel that MacMall is a good reseller, so be it. The point of this thread was to alert those who have been wanting an Apple mba refurb; often, they appear for a short time and are missed.

As usual these are selling out quickly (already the 4GB 1.4GHz models are gone). If I didn't already own one I'd be very tempted by the 15% off on the "ultimate" models. I have purchased refurbished Apple products in the past and they have been just as good as new, AFAIC. The only thing you don't get is a new box. You get a special "refurb" box.

I just bought one last night and can echo this - mine was $28 more to just buy new.

of course it shows up literally minutes after I order an ultimate new from macmall. Oh well, after tax, it wasn't a huge savings, and it'll be nice to have a non-refurb for once...

I get that some people have a great refurb purchase.. I don't..

Particularly with laptops many people return them (especially with no restock) if they have a few dead pixels (acceptable), etc.

If we were talking about 25% savings, sure I'd probably roll the dice.. but for $50 on a $1600 purchase.. nope.

And for those with good exp. with refurb, I'm glad it's not wide spread.. but my main experience was a horror story.

good point but usually refurb is around 15% off which would be around $200 on a $1600 purchase + you have the same warranty as new

Got a 13" Ultimate last night, $1529 + CA tax. Good deal, about $270 off retail, hope it's in good shape.

argh! If I'd only checked refurb first. MacMall shipped mine yesterday, but it's coming on a truck, so won't be here til monday. At least my wife's MBP will be here today, and I can entertain myself setting that up for her.
