Apple is paying close attention to all iPad 2 returns during the first few weeks to make sure there are no major production defects. This policy has led to an amusing story that we thought was entertaining enough to share.

The story comes by way of an individual close to Apple:[Apple's] focus this week has been to troubleshoot all the iPad 2s that customers are returning to the stores. One iPad came back with a post it note on it that said "Wife said no." It was escalated as something funny, and two of the VPs got wind of it. They sent the guy an iPad 2 with a note on it that said "Apple said yes."We're guessing a free iPad satisfied any objection the customer's wife might have had.

And now let the angry "I still can't even find one to buy!" rants.

I'm very amused by this and would love to have been a fly on the wall at Apple when this was all discussed.

It's doubtful that that return excuse can ever be used again. Too funny!

My thoughts exactly. A hilarious one-time event most likely but good for Apple. Heck if I was an exec there I'd send the guy one on my own dime (so it's not "Apple" doing it).

My wife said no too and this even includes my wish for one for my upcoming bday to get one.

I agree, it would also have been fun to see the look in the face of the couple when they got their free iPad. What a great PR move.

Don't be too thrilled. His wife now might made him sell it for the $1000+ dollars he can get on ebay. :)

Why would it matter what his wife said?

Never stopped me.

Absolutely priceless! I think this is Top 10 material on my favorite MacRumors articles ever list. :D

Excellent move, Apple. This will be one of those stories thrown around when people talk tech for quite a while.

I am sure some people are going to be pissed at this, but OWNED.

Owned? Aside from some random dislike of the "term", I have to ask where was anyone owned? If you're saying the wife was owned, she wasn't. Wife said no, probably due to the issue of money and not the device itself.

I worry about youth today.

It is a very cute story and shows companies still have a sense of humor sometimes.
