AT&T throttling thread - MAP
Hi all!
"What is this" - My attempt to gather data and compile a map on AT&T's evil throttling practice. The purpose of this map is to show what areas of the country are getting throttled at what point. "That's awesome- how can I help?" - What you need to do is post your monthly data use- available in the AT&T app, if you have gotten a warning/notice that you are being throttled, and where you are physically. (city/state would be helpful) "Anything else?" - If you've used under a gig, and haven't gotten a message, please don't post... This thread needs to remain readable Thanks so much everyone! Dave |

I use between 2 and 4 gb per month. I got my first throttling notification on January 25, and I was just a hair over 2 gb. I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth area

Not me, but my brother was throttled at just over 2 GB today. He lives in Lawton, OK.
He sent me the screen from the AT&T app, showed 2076.25 MB. Received message from AT&T at 8:59, he checked his usage at 9:11. |

I got the message around 2gb, but got throttled after I passed 4gb. I live in Sacramento CA. It is annoying beyond belief!

One of the lines on my family plan just hit 3.6GB with 1 day left on the billing cycle.
No throttling or warning message. New England area. |

Is everyone who is being throttled on the unlimited data plan?
Or are some being throttled on the 3GB plans as well? I'm on unlimited, haven't yet received a message or been noticeably throttled. I vary between 2-4 GB a month. Located in the twin cities, MN.

Does anyone know if this throttling policy applies to iPad owners with unlimited data
I'm curious about that...
I have both an iphone and ipad and would be more likely to use more data on the ipad. I'm just wondering if they are doing this on the ipad w/unlimited as well.

Did you call and cancel or go to a store? Not for sure if you can even cancel in a store. Did they try to recover your business by offering dollars off your montly bill??

When I told them I was cancelling they were willing to give me family text messages for $20 for 6 months. That's all they were willing to do. Only willing to offer a discount on messaging but nothing on data plan. I was looking for 5gb plus tethering for $30 a month. They wouldn't budge so I moved on from ATT. But I do miss those speeds when I wasn't throttled. Verizon is much slower on downloads but web browsing pretty much the same as ATT.

I live in Springfield, IL and got my text last night. I was at 2MB. This is my second month in a row to get the text.
I called AT&T and they basically said that they know that the contract doesn't allow them to do this and if you take them to small claims court you'd win. They said that they'd appeal and draw it out as long as possible to make it as expensive as possible for you. I was shocked the rep admitted to this. |

They are in it to make money. However treat your longterm customers by throttling their speeds when a brand new customer isn't effected at all? Your kidding me right?

No I am not kidding you, because you've been on a contract or a customer longer means your owed something? I've been with AT&T for years and year now, hell I was with cingular way back before they AT&T sank their teeth in. Just becuase you've been with them "forever" doesn't entitle you to crap.

I have no problems with AT&T making money. That being said, it's BS that they are throttling customers who signed up for unlimited data before this new policy was announced. If they want to throttle customers who signed up after the policy change, that's fine, but the old unlimited plans should be exempt. I have an unlimited texting plan that's no longer available. Why haven't they made change that part of my contract?

He's one of those RARE, and endangered species of computer users who understands that there is a "Search" function built into most web portals. It's really magical. You pick keywords, type them in and then spend the infinitely long, agonizing, slow-as-the-hills, 10-15 seconds to look through the results. Please treat him kindly as these species are easily spooked and may not return if frightened too much.

Being throttled on LTE isn't bad. The throttled speeds on my iPhone 5 are .50 Mbps up and down with very low pings of 50-70.
