She was only 48? Wow... I thought she was much older than that.

Was her death drug-related?

I would think drugs played a role in some way. To think she was one the biggest star in the 80's and to see what happened to her career after the drugs took over.

totally cool
"Did you know that Whitney Houston’s debut LP called simply Whitney Houston, had four number one singles on it? It’s hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks. But The Greatest Love of All is one of the best and most powerful songs ever written about self preservation and dignitiy. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it’s not too late to better ourselves since it’s impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It’s an important message, crucial really, and it’s beautifully stated on the album." - Patrick Bateman

RIP Whitney...

Beautiful voice. She was so cute in the 80's... Less so, later.

This news is a little more unexpected than, say, Amy Winehouse - but not by much.

With the DOWN that I just negated as evidence, the American music industry is all about flash, and very little about actual talent.

Etta James' passing did not go unnoticed in these parts. ;)

Not quite sure what the American music industry has to do with threads "in these parts." Etta James' death was everywhere on the web for a week solid... that no one bothered to start a thread about it here is either just coincidence, or at the most speaks to MR forum members and their interests.

Etta was not well known with this generation, she paved the way for Whitney no doubt.

Whitney had a great voice and was the singer of a generation, she was made by and also made MTV. You can hate her music but she had a great powerful voice, something you can't say for todays singers.

Why did you not start a Etta thread?

very young, hopefully she will be at peace now, but seeing people who had so much potential pass away at a young age is sad.

48 is not young compared to hundreds of children dying in Africa and all over the world everyday.

Well quite, how many potentially great singers died today because of a lack of clean water or easily treated conditions like Malerpia et al.(f..ing iPhone)
