No Signal on jailbroken 3GS iphone

I'm asking for my friend

Phone: 3GS
iOS: 5.1 (9B176)
Carrier: T-Mobile

there was a signal before.. but now its gone. What are some things my friend could do to catch t-mobiles signal again?

tried hard reset
tried disabling 3g, then turning on data roaming on and 3g on again.
i don't know what program my friend used to jailbreak it but i'm guessing ultrasnow?

I don't think there's a jailbreak for 5.1? Double check the software version. I could be wrong though but it was just released last week so I doubt there is a jailbreak yet.

there is an tethered jailbreak which im using just now on 3g2, 5.1. but theres no current unlock! so frustrated!!! wish i never updated!!

Just Jailbreak it with Redsnow and install Ipad baseband, then install in Cydia Ultrasnow and Ultrasnow fixer for 5.1 it worked for me
