A lot of newsstand magazines are free but require a subscription. However there are a few don't require you to pay to use them which is nice. These are either completely free or have free features with optional subscriptions.

I thought I'd create a thread to help people discover ones that don't require a subscription. If you see a magazine that's not on the list please post it and I will update the list.

Thanks!

Some magazines like Automobile and Motor Trend give you a free iPad subscription as long as you subscribe to their print edition.

I found a deal that let me renew both of these subscriptions for $4 per year. While not totally free, considering you get both print and iPad versions of the magazine, I think this is a great deal.

awesome post!

I would love to see some free mags and wanted to "test" some but almost all had the subscription based packet.

I like the Lowes as a decent free one. neat ideas at least.

You can add Atomix magazine to free mags available everywhere, a video game publication that went free in January.

Thanks for the great list.

I thought that TRVL has a one-time 99 cent fee to be able to view the issues. Has that changed recently?

To the OP,

Good post, you should edit your list in post 1 for the additions.

Wow. I am surprised by CPU being free. Thanks.

I just found a new one as well, Cineworld Magazine is a UK movie magazine that just came out and is free in Newsstand.

Another entry to add to the list: Tech Living magazine, an australian publication about technology.
