Apple Announces Fourth-Generation iPad with Lightning Connector, New A6X Chip

Apple today announced an update to its full-size iPad, upgrading its processor with a faster A6X chip and implementing the new Lightning connector that debuted with the iPhone 5. The new processor delivers up to two times the CPU and graphics performance of the prior chip, while maintaining 10 hours of battery life and the same design as the prior iPad.

The new iPad now supports many new international LTE carriers, as well.

The fourth-generation iPad comes in black and white with the same pricing and storage configurations as the third-generation iPad models, starting at $499 for the 16 GB Wi-Fi models and $629 for the 16 GB cellular models.

Pre-orders for the new iPad begin on Friday, October 26 through the Apple Online Store in the US, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The Wi-Fi configurations will begin shipping November 2, with the LTE configurations following two weeks later in the US, and then following in other countries.

Yes.

Ipad3 isn't even available in the Apple Store anymore. Looks like Ipad 4 has replaced it.
Strange that Ipad 2 is not replaced by 3 instead ?

Anyway, number 4 is still like the others a overgrown mobile phone (imo).
But I'm shure it's going to sell well.

Nope it's not outdated. Your iPad 3 still works great has retina display etc... Apple had to update the doc connector stuff. So they have a line of iPads that can use the new doc connector.

now i at least know how Android users feel every 2 months it aint pretty!

---

gotta be confusing to sell your 3rd non-existing iPad on ebay now as the iPad 4 is simply called iPad with Retina on the Apple Store. some people will prolly take advantage of it on eBay ^^

Maybe, so having just avoided being burned by getting a refund for my iPad3 this last Sunday...I'm not going to wait until March and then maybe by then I'll choose to buy an upgrade to my Nexus 7" and a newer model Windows Surface RT.

Clearly this shows despite pundits blasting W8 that Apple was worried by MS Surface RT.

I think the full sized iPad5 will have a micro-SD slot and a USB3 slot somehow. I bet there might be an iPad 5 Pro that offers a Stylus Wacom pressure sensitive screen too.

Though Apple will sell tens of millions of iPad Minis and iPad4s they will have to come up with something far better in 2013.

I'd wait: there has to be a pressure sensitive Wacom style iPad 5 or later iPad6 Pro at the very least.

For some reason having just escaped holding old junk which what I found the iPad3 to be, overheating, dreary, heavy and slow..

I was not amused nor happy today with Apple even though I escaped with a refund. Despite all the boasting I felt like these oligarchs were laughing all the way to the bank at our expense. Apple owes iPad 3 owners of 90 days a hefty iTunes gift card.

The Ipad Mini has alot of room to grow, next spring you'll see the retina ipad mini with A5x and extended battery life. Followed by an A6 mini.

Doesn't matter if the OS is still crummy and if the iPad mini has a A5. It won't be till the next iPad is release this time next year before we start seeing apps that take advantage of the A6 - A7xxx. Mark my words.

Be happy with your iPad 3. It's good for another 2 years.

I think you mean A5X (iPad 3) vs. A6X (iPad 4). The A6X is twice as fast as the already fast A5X. I'm thinking the iPad 4 is going to be a BEAST!

Yeah can't wait for the 2nd. And to think my Powermac G5 and iPad 1 were once the newest thing out.

Very angry, sorry.

I know my iPad does all the same it did, but I waited until the third gen, shelled out £649 for THE top end model, and it got 7 months on the market.

I play a lot of games, and my iPad is left behind before it even got a killer app.

Real Racing 3 ... *sigh*

Can't help but feel scunnered.

It always sucks when your newest toy is outdated. But you'll never keep up with technology. I hate to say it but you just never will. BTW, I'm in the same boat.

I tend to update every other product update. To avoid the minor tweak editions.
