Apple Senior Vice President Eddy Cue Joins Ferrari's Board of Directors

Eddy Cue, Apple's head of Internet Software and Services (including Siri and Maps), has joined Ferrari's board of directors. Cue is a bit of a sports car buff and says he has owned a Ferrari for five years.

Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo said Cue's "huge experience in the dynamic, innovative world of the Internet will be of great assistance to [the company]." Di Montezemolo met Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier this year at a Stanford University event. He praised Apple, saying the two companies "are connected by the same passion, the same love for the product, maniacal attention to technology, but also to design."

Quote:
I am pleased and proud to become a member of the board. I have personally dreamed of owning a Ferrari since I was 8 years old and have been lucky to be an owner for the past 5 years. I continue to be awed by the world-class design and engineering that only Ferrari can do.
Cue was recently profiled as a "master negotiator and product resuscitator" after he was given charge of Siri and Maps. The Ferrari press release was noticed by AppleInsider.

It's starting to make sense now. They need to play catch up to Google, so in stead of Priuses with camera's we will have Ferarris with cameras racing around the country.

This seems strange to me as Ferrari is very lacking in the techno-gadget driver comfort type of thing. I'm around these cars daily and I can tell you that they are built for the track, not comfort. Everyone oohs and ahhs over them but your tune would change once you ride these cars in an everyday type of setting. They are sweet machines for the track but lack on the comfort and stereo department. Quality control is even poor, I have seen bad paint touch ups, overspray on interior panels, missing bolts, misaliglined interior panels and more. Give be a Bentley any day.....who needs to go 240mph anyway! I really hope he is able to work Ferrari into updating their driver comfort/entertainment packages because they do need help.

He wasn't in charge when it was released. Maps is Scott Forstall's fault. Eddy Cue is trying to fix it now.

That's funny there was a VERY similar story to this in the Steve Jobs bio (I think it was in there, could have been a different source). One of the employees wanted to be on the board of a completely different and non-competing company, and Jobs basically said heck no, you need to focus all of your time at Apple.

Soooo.....well. You know.

Here's to hoping he actually EARNS his "product resuscitator" designation SOONER rather than later.

I've always likened Apple to be more like McLaren.

Honestly, if there is anything with a worse reputation that Apple Maps, it's Ferrari's sat nav system.

Yep... and at Ferrari, he'll be in charge of the GPS department.
