Apple Store App Updated With Siri and Gift Card Passbook Support (Theoretically)

Apple has updated its Apple Store app [App Store] with support for Siri, and the ability to email Passbook enabled gift cards to friends via the app. However, despite being in the release notes, neither the gift card feature and Passbook support appear to be enabled yet.

- Ask Siri to help you find prices and shop for Apple products. (Siri-enabled device required.)

Asking Siri things like "How much is the MacBook Pro?" routes users directly into the Apple Store app, generally to the section they've asked about. This adds to Siri's app-related abilities; on Monday it was reported that in iOS 6.1, Siri would support movie ticket purchases via Fandango.

I wonder who would actually bother to ask Siri for the price of an Apple product. Oh wait... that's maybe just because I know them all by heart

You can install the app. It just runs in that compatibility mode thing.

I agree. I'm sure the API exists already, since they were just able to update the Apple Store app, but they are hiding it from the developers for now.

I don't really understand why we need to wait for a whole year for any real updates in iOS... in the 4.x era... 4.0 adds folders, multitasking etc. 4.1 has HDR camera, 4.2 with iPad support, find my iphone etc., 4.3 Airplay for third party apps, etc.

And since 5.0 the updates came much slower and there was a nearly half-year interval between 5.0 and 5.1

Now Forstall is gone... I hope that the updates are faster now.

Siri has been able to respond to prices about Apple products since iOS 6. I remember when the 15" rMBP came out I asked "How much is the new MacBook Pro?" and it opened the Apple Store app. Not sure why they're advertising this as a new feature..

This update adds support for EasyPay in Canada, amongst other countries.

Might be something you want to edit the article and say.

I've seen this posted a few times in this thread but I'm not sure if it's sarcasm or not. I saw a bunch of iPad Mini smart covers at Best Buy (Canada) the other day. All the same colours as the regular sized Smart Covers. No leather and no Smart Cases as of yet though (afaik).
