Bug in iOS 6 Causes Multiple Downloads of Podcasts, Is Fixed in 6.0.1

The Next Web reports on an apparent bug in iOS 6's AV Foundation that caused podcasts and audio streams to be downloaded multiple times unnecessarily.

The issue was first discovered by the Public Radio Exchange labs, which thoroughly examined the issue.

The audio streams that are being pulled down by iOS 6 through a variety of apps including Apple's Podcasts and others are being increased in size by a huge factor. The streams are being downloaded multiple times as connection errors cause them to fire off a new session. And, the entire time that a stream is active, it is being downloaded over and over.

TNW notes that the issue appears to be fixed in iOS 6.0.1, and did not occur in iOS 5. It appears to affect both customers on Wi-Fi and over cellular networks, so there is the potential for data overages affecting users downloading podcasts frequently. TNW claims that "some users have reported success contacting their carrier to have the overage charges removed."

Funny that they still find new fixes in iOS 6.0.1 even after a few weeks after the roll out.

iOS is the only software ever with bugs in it. I guess you're right.

I am wondering if that was the cause of the some of issues with the podcast stand alone app? It took for ever to load and when it did it would start and stop in the beginning.

So far I have not had this issue.

Is that anything to do with ios 6? Or since when, Apple was chatching up googls software bugs?
If comments was reasonable and most importantly sensible, this side would be much better plase to be

considering the Galaxy Nexus was released with ICS it is no wonder it does not play nice with Gingerbread. There could easily be a lot of driver issues and it is not something really worth fixing.

Yes it is a bug and no it is not one worth fixing.

This we should right off to FUD because you are linking to something that really unless you know how to read it is pure FUD.

The Galaxy Nexus never ran Gingerbread and this is for AOSP, which is the open source build for Android which is not optimised for any particular device.

I wish the app allowed you to manually enter in a podcast URL. Maybe iOS7 will do that for us...

I did a fairly extensive search on the sig quote. While it was referenced in many places (certainly possibly incorrectly), you are probably correct that he never said it as no one could could definitively source the quote.

But I like the quote, and I endeavor to never let facts get in my way when it suits my purpose.
