Google to Release iOS Maps App Tonight
![]() ![]() When Apple stopped using Google Maps in September with iOS 6, rumors immediately began that the search engine giant would release its own Maps app into the App Store. Since then, unhappy iOS users have been waiting patiently for the app, which didn't seem like it was going to materialize, until tonight. Google Maps for iOS will likely be a huge hit with iPhone users that have been plagued with problems using Apple's built-in mapping solution. Apple has received significant criticism over its mapping app, most recently when motorists in Australia became lost because of a misplaced waypoint. There's no word on when the app will hit the App Store, but if it is in line with other releases, expect to see it around 11pm Eastern. Article Link: Google to Release iOS Maps App Tonight |

still wont matter as much because ios maps will be the default maps app. every time a address or link is pressed, ios maps will pop up. no settings to change default maps app. no integration with native applications and siri

can't happen soon enough.
i'm wondering what apple is planning on doing in the long run since they can't get internet services. i mean it's not in their dna... what to do? maybe they should practice what they preach and just focus on a couple of things like making iphones, macs, iPads, osx, iOS, and leave internet services to another company like google. |

That's why Apple's rolling out of their maps makes sense. Google's original contract for maps wouldn't have allowed turn-by-turn, vector maps, and many other features that this app will introduce, because apple made competition on their own platform.

win-win
I'll admit to not having had any problems with Maps. But if I had, I would've been pissed. So I consider myself lucky and won't say: "but it works for me, why are YOU complaining"!

I personally haven't had any issues with Apple maps other than POI related ones. It seems their info is either wrong or outdated for the most part. If I have the actual address then Apple maps work fine.

The thing is in nearly every legitimate review of the iPhone 5 or other devices that come with iOS 6 out of the box the reviewer always acts like they got lucky not having problems with Apple Maps. Are they really that lucky or is Apple Maps just not nearly as flawed as everyone (mostly people who have never used it) make it out to be?

Will I finally have reason to come back to iOS as my daily driver? Can;t wait!

I have absolutely no problem with Apple Maps. It gives better directions than the GPS in my car. Finds everyplace I need to go. Great turn by turn directions. At least in the Seattle area, it is really good. No need for Google.

Thank god. I was an initial defender of Apple Maps, but I've found too many instances where it can't find well-known businesses or landmarks in my local area. I've switched to using the Google Maps web app.

That may set a new record for the most quickly downloaded iPhone app. I hope the App Store won't crash due to millions of simultaneous downloads.
