Beginning Thursday ( Today ) , the Federal Communications Commission is barring broadcasters and pay TV providers from airing excessively loud commercials, saying ads must maintain the "same average volume" as the programs they accompany.
Oh, a heartfelt and profound amen to that. I thought it was just my (over sensitive) hearing, or my (intolerant) disposition, and loathing of advertising which made me think think that yes, ads were unnaturally loud, and - strangely - it seemed that I always had to lower the volume control on the TV remote control when the ads came on......and now, you tell me, this is what everyone experienced. Pity that I live across the Atlantic Pond, where such enlightened values (and laws) have yet to take hold.......I live in hope.
