Redesigned and Expanded Third Street Promenade Apple Store Opens in Santa Monica, CA
![]() Apple has opened its new Third Street Promenade Apple Store in Santa Monica, CA. The store has the same design as the new Palo Alto location, with a slightly smaller implementation as the Upper West Side store in Manhattan. ![]() Apple proposed the new store to the Santa Monica planning commission more than a year ago, with the new building gaining approval without so much as a discussion. Been wondering if Apple has some special coating on all that glass to stop finger prints and reduce glare
![]() Also in Santa Monica how the hell do they keep the building cool in summer? |

Hmm...I wasn't aware that a company's retail stores all had to look original. Anyway suggesting that all Apple stores look the same is ridiculous. How exactly does this store look like the Covent Garden or Paris Opera store?

It's called a format. Most retail companies come up with a format and reproduce it in all their locations. Apples format is in fact, very original. All Hollister stores look the same but they're still original in their format.

That store design is going to REALLY give customers an opportunity to test the new iMac's "75% less-reflective, full lamination"...GLARE EVERYWHERE

Big new store. Like an airplane hanger. Nice shadows on the wall from the all glass ceiling. Will be nice in a rainstorm (though it rarely rains here) 1500 tee shirts gone in 45 minutes. 1 MacPro in the entire store. Lots of new iMacs. In stock. Saw 2 going out the store. 3rd party headphones seem to be everywhere. No more seating and video projector for free classes and workshops :-( Original Mac store up the block is boarded up in sliver with arrows pointing to the new store. Apple logo covered in black.

Ehh. Things they built in Dubai and other places makes this look like a kiosk. More importantly, much like in any retail place in LA, women were mostly unattractive, generally people are poorly dressed and the climate is typical of another american mall without soul, void of any sense of identity. Cold, generic, get your stuff and gtfu.

Obviously I saw it and read it as it was on the home page.. And I commented on it because I found it funny this is considered worthy of front page. I'm right. And you know it.

High ceilings and a glass facade should make the NYC store an energy-chugging beast to heat in the winter. Looks like maybe these are designed to take advantage of sunlight, but what do you do when the days are short, cold, and often cloudy? Maybe they can get away with it in California, but it doesn't look to me like the kind of design that's suited to the northeast.
