Does the Media/Video Games Play a Role in Violence

At the NRA's press conference Friday morning, they addressed numerous factors in why we're seeing an increase in gun violence. One of the reasons is the media glorification of these individuals and violent video games. What do you think?

Full transcript/video on my website which is listed my signature.

I'm a media professional and I'm curious your thoughts on this issue.

Joe

I think it's the same BS excuse that led to a mass burning of comics in the late forties. What's more is that it doesn't explain why these games are played all over the world and yet this is a distinctly American problem.

There is something deeply wrong with a society more offended by breasts than by entrails.

Not at all. Do you know how many people play Call of Duty games nationally? How about globally? That's just one franchise -- imagine all of the people who play games from Max Payne to Counter Strike, to Halo, to Left 4 dead, etc.

Video games have never been the issue -- people have, for a while now, been able to rationally accept that, too.

Video games that millions of people play? No. It would show side effects in thousands and thousands of gamers.

Media giving the spotlight to these sickos for months, digging into every minute detail of their life and plastering their face all over the news?

Absolutely. The vid below is from the BBC.
