Thinner, Lighter 5th Generation iPad to Arrive in March 2013?

Japanese blog Macotakara is reporting that a redesigned fifth-generation iPad could arrive in March 2013.

Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight.

Apple just released the fourth-generation iPad about two months ago, which could make this fifth-generation iPad, if the report is true, the second in five months. The design is said to have taken inspiration from the iPad mini and will be thinner and more lightweight. According to the site, the new iPad will 4mm, 17mm and 2mm smaller in height, width, and depth than the current models.

Previously, DigiTimes also reported that a new iPad could appear in the "Middle of 2013". Except for the fourth-generation iPad and iPad mini, new iPads are have traditionally released in the first couple months of the year.

Macotakara has been a source of accurate information in the past, predicting the design of this year's iPod Nano and iPod Touch.

How will the pricing model go for an iPad mini with retina?

Current one starts at $329 for 16GB.

Will the iPad Mini with no Retina drop or will the iPad with Mini just increase in price?

Either way...cant wait for March.

Not going to happen.

It would seriously harm the second hand market - all Apple devices, if they double the frequency of their product refresh cycles, would instantly lose significant (1/2?) value when going to resale.

Why would Apple care about the second-hand market? They want people to buy new devices, so a decline in resale value is actually a benefit for Apple.

Try again. Rather like jailbreaking, Apple doesn't give a poop about the resale market. So yeah it could happen.

I went from the ipad1 to the 3, skipped the 2 altogether and until there is some form of REAL upgrade (e.g. retina was a big jump in quality) I won't be bothering. Thinner, lighter, BIG DEAL.... It's light and thin enough now, I don't have any problems sticking my ipad3 in my backpack and its not even heavy enough to notice.

Apple need to stop with the 'baby steps' upgrades, it's starting to annoy Joe Public... I can see the warning signs already.

Well, Maybe he should take his foot off the gas before he goes over the cliff!

Getting the current products working properly should be 1st priority!!

Personally if I cannot get at least a year out of a device.....I ain't buying!

If there is a NEED, then by all means make it...Not just to milk the cow!

So because a new version comes out, you can't continue using the old one? Because that's what is sounds like you're saying. My wife still uses our original iPad 1 (2009) at least several hours a day, every day, and in some respects it's even a little better than my iPad 3 (battery life, battery charge rate, heat generation, holding comfort).

Agreed, but by making the screen bigger rather than shrinking the body. I can actually see the iPad become 12". That would be great!

Why? I am still using my original iPad without any issues. This coming May will make 3 years that I have gotten out of it.
