Steve Jobs' Yacht Released After Security Deposit Posted

Last Friday, we noted that the Jobs family's new yacht had been impounded by Dutch authorities as a result of a dispute over the design fee to be paid to famed French designer Philippe Starck. Starck had claimed that he was due to be paid EUR9 million for designing the yacht, while the Jobs family said that the agreed rate was 6% of the EUR105 million construction cost for the yacht, or roughly EUR3 million less than Starck claimed he was owed.

AFP now reports that the yacht has been freed after the Jobs family posted a security deposit to a bank account.
Quote:
"The Venus is no longer impounded, we have found a solution," Gerard Moussault, a Hague-based lawyer for the Jobs estate, told AFP.

"A security deposit was paid into a bank account, but I cannot say for how much," Moussault said after French designer Starck last week asked Amsterdam bailiffs to seize the sleek 70-metre (230-foot) yacht.
The yacht remains in harbor in Amsterdam due to bad weather, and the report notes that the yacht is scheduled to be transported by ship to the United States to be turned over to the Jobs family at an unspecified date.

The best comment over here. I'd say yes but hey, this is not a Jobs family product, not Apple's. So I guess it wont be the case. I am tired of the thinner and lighter stuff!

And what most here don't realize, what you see aren't iMacs. They were specially prepared. They are basically only monitored; were special prepared. The navigation and radar interface is running on embedded windows XP machines.

The issue wasn't that he wasn't paid, it was the amount. It seems that he pay was based on the cost of the whole thing and it wasn't as much as was originally expected and he wanted his pay off the expectation not the actual

Here's a taste....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_PVWs2OvKU

...although it's more of a "boxing video".

This one's fun too...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX9OCcfzIBg

...it's a clever film that shows the crew working on the hull of a yacht while it's in the moving "dry-dock".

Some other links and a slideshow of the "ship shipping" process at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost...0&postcount=17.

Not funny. The stern was not designed to compensate for "following seas"
A storm or rogue wave could have an unfortunate outcome.

And the bow and superstructure don't look like a good design for a "!following-sea" (is "leading sea" used?). And one of the hazards of a following sea is that a wave hitting the boat from the rear will raise the stern and lower the bow, so that the bow will submarine under the water in front. Not good with a glass superstructure with vertical walls and front-facing doors.

But some of the SJ fans won't hear of any criticism of the seaworthiness of this boat.

Or, that instead of having it built in the US with US labor, it was built overseas and has to be shipped (more fuel) back to the US.

I am not anybody's fan, however it would be of some interest and amusement to know what qualifies YOU to doubt the design if this vessel?
It is increasingly more difficult to find good craftsmanship within the US. Locating a good plumber in any town USA is already a difficult task. When you take into account how Americans built dwellings, sourcing workers in Europe is a no brainer.

Months on the open ocean in 50m yachts, sometimes in seas so rough that you couldn't walk - you had to crawl on your hands and knees.

Instead of so vacuously doubting my credentials, how about telling us why you're the expert in ship architecture?

I worked 17 years as an engineering for Fincantieri. It never occurred to us to crawl on our hands or knees.
