New user rankings?

Saw I have a new user ranking. Did the admins change up the titles?

I now see a g5 is 12000 posts. Interesting

Yep, they are being changed, but the system isn't perfect yet. It's a work in progress, apparently.

Strange. And now I can never be a G4, what a shame.

Anyway, what is a "P6"?

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
The P6 microarchitecture is the sixth generation Intel x86 microarchitecture, implemented by the Pentium Pro microprocessor that was introduced in November 1995. It is sometimes referred to as i686.[citation needed] It was succeeded by the NetBurst microarchitecture in 2000, but eventually revived in the Pentium M line of microprocessors. The successor to the Pentium M variant of the P6 microarchitecture is the Core microarchitecture.

I disagree. As much as I like the G5 moniker, bein G5 means you have spent your time to be here and have helped and put serious input into the community. I don't feel G5 should be lowered this easily

This is very sad to read. You appear to be getting upset about a moniker on an internet forum.

Don't worry about it. Turn off your computer and go and get some fresh air. You may even choose to speak to a real person.

I might be inclined to agree if the old value for G5 (and previous to them; that would be the G4, G3 and 604 are reduced by 1k to 2k post count). However a drastic drop like this is not agreeable.

Congratulations, if that is in order. And, as an aside, just where are the user rankings listed?

How do user titles work? from the MacRumors FAQ
Quote:
User titles are based on post counts:

Newbie => 0 - 29 posts
Member => 30 posts
Regular => 100 posts (minimum required to post in the Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum)
6502 => 250 posts (minimum required for access to the Marketplace forum)
6502a => 500 posts (minimum required to have an avatar)
...

Even with upgraded architecture?

Anyway, I thought P6 would have something to do with Pentium 6, but I still do not really get, what it has to do with Macs, even if the P6 was a foremother of past technology.

As far as I understood the user titles, they represented CPU architecture being used in Macs, and a P6 was never really used in a Mac, unless some prototypes from Apple's labs do count nowadays.

What about user configurable user titles for paying members?

I agree there. To me, after g5, would be core solo, core duo, core2duo,yada yada

Though I could also understand something like the names of the architecture, like Westmere, Merom or Sandy Bridge.

Strange, a change to surprise us, getting a bit of backfire from the more active members here but still no updated FAQ for user titles above the G5.
Normally this message board is more straight with us.

Anyway, user titles do not matter that much to me, only that I was keen on being a G4, in "honor" of the best notebook I ever had (G4 iBook).

C'est la vie.

As SBG has already posted, it is up to Doctor Q, who is probably busy doing the six-monthly rankings, to post the updated FAQ and the new user titles. It is probably a new year surprise.

Core Solo, Core 2 Duo etc. are not architectures, they are product names. For example Core 2 Duo spans across two architectures (Core and Penryn). Intel's current product naming scheme (Core i3, i5 and i7) has been used for four different architectures (Nehalem, Westmere, Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge) and if leaks are to believe, Haswell will also use the same naming system. Hence using the product names would be risky because we don't know when Intel is going to change the system and it would also be confusing because an Ivy Bridge i5 is far from being the same as Westmere i5.

Scepticalscribe asked, "just where are the user rankings listed?", which is what those posts responded to. The new rankings are not listed yet, but that's where they would be.

They didn't upgrade MY architecture, although it sure could use it!

Extending List of Ranks

Can we extend the list of ranks on the FAQ to include everything?
For instance, this user at 15k has the rank of pentium, and this user has the rank of Nehalem. SO is there anyway all these ranks could be added to the FAQ?

Thanks, I did a little bit of research from there, and Nehalem is so far the highest...

Yes, it's the highest in use at this time. Time will tell if they've assigned any other ranks to higher post counts, as people reach those post levels.
