Apple Says 'Do Not Disturb' Bug to Resolve Itself on Monday, January 7th
![]() Some users discovered that the scheduling portion of the "Do Not Disturb" feature in iOS 6 failed to work after New Year's Eve. The scheduling would turn itself on as scheduled, but would fail to turn itself off again. Apple reports in a support article that Do Not Disturb scheduling will begin working properly again after January 7, 2013. ![]() Quote:

None of my iOS 6.1 beta devices suffered from this issue, while my 6.0.x devices did. I wonder if this is an indication that Apple plans on the 6.1 release to be around the 7th.

No, the bug corrects itself on the first Sunday of each year. This bug will be squashed in the next update though, so I wouldn't expect to see this again next year.

So this means that people can disturb me all they want until Monday, well I guess that's just fine and dandy!

moaning about a software bug that is taking a whole 7 days to fix? not bad if you ask me especially for a non critical bug.

Kinda like those lame tech support people who just say reboot your device when they can't figure out what's wrong with it. |

Apple want you to ride it out until the 7th. It just means the time frame in which this bug had effect will pass. If you don't update iOS (an indeed if they don't address it in future updates), it would mean you'd most likely have the same problem again next year. People keep saying this is a "minor problem", but it is indicative of sloppy programming. Any programmer would agree. .

6.1 beta 4 had the issue for me on the first, but nothing since...even though it's only one day later.

To quote Lois CK when the newly intodroduced wifi stopped working on the plane.....
" 'This is bull ****.' How quickly the world owed him something he didn't even know existed 10 minutes ago." Seriously people. This function was only introduced a few months ago. It's not like you've been living you're entire lives with this feature and it's all of the sudden been taken away from you. It's still there. You just have to flip the switch manually for 5 more days. Apple is not doomed, your life will not end. It will fix itself faster than a patch will be put out. Relax. Go about your day the same way you did before DND was even introduced.

And no, it's not still there. Switching it on and off manually kind of takes away the big point of the function, that you can have it turn off and on according to a schedule. Now that I know that it doesn't work I can adjust to that until the 7th. But since I didn't know it yesterday morning and I have used the equivalent functions for years with no problem it was pretty annoying/embarrassing that I missed two calls from my boss needing fast help from me and one customer before I noticed that the phone was still on DND (when trying to find out why I had missed the calls from my now angry boss, who had rushed down to my room because I wouldn't answer his calls). |

So what happens next year?
And what about other issues? Should we turn our phone off for several days? Unacceptable Apple! |

So just ignore the problem and it will go away eventually.

I view this more as a feature than a bug.

Given that they're coming off a holiday, and that they won't be efficient in patch release (as always), it's unlikely they'd deploy anything before then anyways.
Someone made an oopsie in the code but fortunately it only hits this week; next years solution will be baked into 6.1. |

This seems to be Apple's mantra over the last couple years. Apple has trained you well.
