I've been wanting to get another Mac for some time now, and I've decided either the upcoming release of the Mac mini OR the eMac.

Which one is the better deal?

My spending limit is >>>>>>>$1,100<<<<<<<<<.

To tell you the truth, I think the eMac is a better deal. I.E. - Better graphics, included monitor (don't care about the CRT space), double the HD, faster HD, DVD+RW 8x Dual Layer Burner ........

Which one should I get, as I'm just not sure.

if you update that limit 99 dollars you could get an iMac

but i would go with the eMac

Unfortunatley, I can't do that :(. My limit *includes* tax :(

Don't get an emac, they're sooooooooooooooooooooooo painfully slow it's not even funny. Safari sucks the life out of the damn things. Go witha MAc mini and a decent monitor, and you'll be spending right about 900 bucks. Maybe 1K with tax. Then you have the extra 100 for the 1 Gig stick of RAM, or software or accessories. WOOT!

Your kidding, right? the eMacs are FASTER than the Mac minis! a 7200RPM drive a 1.42GHz proccesor, and a 512MB stick is NOT painfully slow. My iMac G3 400MHz surfs the net in Safari just fine, running OS X 10.3.9. All eMac owners are going to bite your head off ;) Maybe an eMac 700MHz maybe slow, but not really. I need the DVD+RW, 160GB HD, ... all of which the mini doesn't have. Someone just give me a good reason to go with the Mac mini instead of the eMac.

Have you checked the refurb section in the apple store?
You could get both at that price point.
(mini and eMac)

I sure have. I can't get those. I have to BTO the eMac and have Airport Extreme and Bluetooth. :( ... wish I could though.

eMac is better then the mini. Better graphic chip with coreimage support, faster HD, built in monitor and speakers, comes with keyboard and mouse.

Emac but if Apple starts throwing a 64mb video as has been rumored into Macmini then MacMini all the way. Its 32mb is its major fault in my view.

Even with 64MB they did not change the GPU core, still a 9200 which is inferior to the 9600 in the eMac. The eMacs GPU supports core image.

mac mini also has a built in speaker FYI

only go with the mac mini if you want to get a lot of accesories with it (extra HD, iPod, etc. etc.)

eMac seems like a better choice or look at sale on apple.com!! iMac G5 are like

899 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...U5Z/0.0.15.1.0.6.63.0.0.0.0.0.0.3.1.1.0?62,43

as about BT and AirPot get a external BT and but a airport card. 899(iMac) 79(AirPort) 60(BT external) tax 1100.28( for my sales tax)

seems like a sweet deal but if not go eMac :D i was looking at one in the store and thought it was ugly but i now i think it like it, it so different from the other Macs. They only had 1 eMac.

Did they announce the 64 mb in the MacMini? I wasnt sure. Yeah a 9200 is crap next to 9600 but they both are crap next to my 6800 :D I guess its a matter of what you need or want. 32mb for for the wife is fine for me 256 isnt enough  Lot of Value in Emac. It depends on what you need or want but the ability to allways use new monitors with MacMini vs Emac is nice as is not staring into a cathode ray tube.

Well the person that said that he got a 1.5GHz / 64MB 9200 / 5400 RPM HD / Dual layer DVD burner says that is what the updated mini will have. He got one that said it was a 1.42 GHz model on the box and stickers but actually it was the updated model. Should be coming next Tuesday or so.

If so this makes for very solid lil machine in my view from what i have seen on my womans machine vs my Powermac Quicksilver vs my ..............Alienware :D I would guess this new Mac mini puts you in UT and perhaps Doom3 and other then gaming it will do anything minus core ?

Make that two 1 GB sticks
eventually! As of right now, I only have 3 512MB PC2700 sticks and 1GB stick (PC2700).

I'm going to get the mighty mouse at purchase. and the twilt and swivel stand later.

I think you made the right choice; even with the mini update, the emac is the better deal (unless you already have a nice LCD for the mini).
