Is anyone else in this same predicament? If so did you find a way around it? I have a Macbook Pro 13 early 2011. I installed Crucial 128 SSD in the primary bay and moved the HDD to the optical bay. I put my optical drive in an enclosure and run that through USB.

Now the problem is (I have the same problem with Bootcamp) that Crucial's update (and Bootcamp trying to read my Windows disc) will not use an external drive nor is there a way to get either to use a flash drive.

Is my only alternative to re-install the optical drive? If so what a mess! I use the HDD for media storage and the directories are symbolically liked to from my SSD. I don't understand whats the difference, internal or external, its still just a drive being used for input. Thanks.
