First Video Clip of Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs

Following yesterday's news that the independent film JOBS starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs will open in theaters on April 19, ETonline.com has released the first video clip from the film. The brief clip shows Kutcher as Jobs speaking with Josh Gad in the role of Steve Wozniak.
Quote:
In the clip, Jobs (played by Ashton Kutcher) is raving about the operating system that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak (played by Josh Gad) created. While Jobs is certain that this will become a ubiquitous product for mass consumption, Wozniak needs convincing.

"Nobody wants to buy a computer," says Wozniak.

"How does somebody know what they want if they've never even seen it?" Jobs replies.
In related news, management appears to have made a change to the styling of the film's title, as there had been a fair amount of confusion and criticism over the original "jOBS" styling, an homage to the "i" naming scheme for Apple's products.

But it appears that in recent weeks various official presences for the film such as a revamped teaser site, Twitter account, and Facebook page have adopted a new all-caps styling for JOBS, with the "J" appearing slightly larger than the other capitalized letters in the film's new promotional logo.

JOBS premieres tomorrow at the Sundance Film Festival ahead of the public release on April 19.

(Thanks, Joel!)

Wow, a clip that has a handful of stereotypical Jobs "sayings" in one place...like they were struggling to make it look legit somehow. "How does somebody know what they want if they've never even seen it?" "...so you just (dramatic pause) WILLED it into existence." Gee, that sounds like the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field. Hmm...sounds like they want people to stop and say, "Oh, so THAT'S where all those sayings came from. They said Jobs catchphrases, so it must be legit!" I was half expecting it to freeze-frame and have a CG of "CATCHPHRASE" pop up real cheesy-like.

Meh.

Oh, and I agree Kutchie looks a HELLUVA lot like Steve did, but when he talks I just picture Kelso.

Yeah, they really are trying way to hard. This movie will probably be about as subtle as a toddler banging frying pans.

The script seems really horrible. As if everything they say is just foreshadowing for what's to come. Like they should turn to the camera and give a little wink after every line.

No one wants to buy a computer, right? right? wink wink, knowwhatimean?

It brought back memories. I remember in 1981, I was a teenager waiting for my mother at a doctor's office. The doctor gestured to some magazines, saying "there are some computer magazines there."

Why did he think I'd be interested in computer magazines? Did he think I was a nerd? Actually, I was a nerd, and I knew I ought to be interested in computers, for nerdness' sake, but I really wasn't. I picked up one of the magazines (probably BYTE) to see what was in it. It did nothing for me.

Fast forward a few months and I'm sitting by my father in a hospital room. I think he had some minor burns from a premature detonation of a trash bag full of acetylene. Anyway, he had brought with him a new toy: An actual computer. It was a Radio Shack PC-1. PC stood for Pocket computer. It had almost a kilobyte of RAM, and ran a small version of BASIC.

After playing with it for an hour or so with him, I was completely hooked. He wouldn't let me take it with me, but he let me borrow the instruction manual, which I devoured. Soon I was reading BYTE cover to cover, including (maybe especially) the plentiful ads. I drooled over every computer I saw, and within a year, I had one of my own. It was a Commodore64, so new that the "computer store" was in the back of an industrial park.

I now have in my possession my first computer, that PC-1, which my father gave me several years ago before he died.

Cool and interesting story. One that kinda mirrors my own entry into the wonderful world of computers.

...but the quote above? Yeah. That kinda sticks out a bit, and sounds like another story just begging to be told.

I'm not knocking anyone's craft, but have either of these two done any research on the mannerisms and behaviors of the people they are supposed to portray? Maybe it's cause it's Steve, that I'm touchy about it?
